Rams lose to Perry, Nevada

Will open district play vs Woodward-Granger next Monday

The Greene County boys basketball team suffered two losses last week as the end of the season approaches.

Greene County played again at home on Monday against Southeast Valley and Tuesday at Wells Fargo Arena against Saydel.

The Rams will open district play in Substate 2, hosting Woodward-Granger (8-11) next Monday at 7 pm. The winner will play Kuemper Catholic (14-5) Wednesday at 7 pm in Carroll.

On Tuesday, Jan. 30, the Rams traveled to Perry High School, falling 71-56. A slow second quarter contributed to the loss. The Blue Jays held a 20-19 lead in the first but then opened up a 42-30 lead at halftime. The Rams came back in the third but stumbled again in the fourth, falling 71-56.

Three players scored in double figures with Jesse Miller grabbing a double/double, 12 rebounds, 10 points. Richard Daugherty tossed in 19 points and Gabe Ebersole 15. 

As a team, the Rams had 22 rebounds, five assists, 13 steals, two blocks, 10 turnovers and 18 fouls.

The Rams dropped a close game in overtime to Nevada on Friday. The Cubs went up 19-14 in the first and held a 41-29 lead at the break. The Rams roared back in the second half, tying the score at 67 all when the horn signaled the end of the game. In the extra period, Nevada tossed in nine points while GC managed six to suffer the 76-73 defeat.

Richard Daugherty had another big game with 33 points, seven rebounds, five assists and two steals. Miller added another double/double to his career total with 10 rebounds and 16 points. 

As a team the Rams had 32 rebounds, 13 assists and seven steals.

Roland-Story is still undefeated in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference with a 13-0 record. Other standings as of Feb. 6 are Nevada 10-3Greene County 6-7, West Marshall 6-7, South Hamilton 5-8, PCM 5-8, Perry 4-9, Saydel 3-10.
